A young lady suspected to be a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Enugu State, has reportedly been killed by unidentified individuals in an Enugu hotel.
Enok Utazi, President of the UNN Students Union, confirmed the event to our correspondent over the phone on Thursday but did not reveal the victim’s student status.
He noted that, while there were rumours that the victim was a student, investigations were underway to verify the claim and that the SUG had contacted the police about the incident.
He said, “I learned about the incident, and we have been trying to verify the studentship of the lady. We cannot ascertain claims that she is a student. The police are involved in the matter and are investigating it to unravel it.
“As a union, we are committed to serving the student populace without discrimination for religion, tribe, or gender, and we are very much committed to their safety.”
It was gathered from sources on social media that the victim, identified as Favour Eze, had gone to the hotel with some people who allegedly pushed her from the balcony.
When our correspondent called the UNN Director of Students Affairs, Prof. Edwin Omeje, he stated that the university had not received a complaint of such an incidence.
He said, “No such incident was reported, and there are no missing student reports from anyone. This is a case of human life; if there was something like this, it would have been reported to me. So, let’s leave it at that; there was nothing of such.”
Attempts to obtain the comment of the state police public relations officer, Daniel Ndukwe, proved futile, as he asked our correspondent to provide information about the inquiry via a message that had not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.
