The senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Andrew Uchendu, OON, has urged all well meaning citizens of Rivers State, to prepare to take back Rivers State, to what it used to be.

Uchendu, acting Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Procurement, who gave the charge in his New Year message to his constituents, declared that 2019 would be a better year for everyone.

He said: “I congratulate my constituents and the entire citizens of Rivers State, who, by the special grace of God, and despite the challenges of 2018, have come to see the light of 2019. I believe that, since there is life, 2019 will be a better year for all of us.

“As a young man, I watched with great excitement and admiration, the growth and development of Rivers State.

“Unexpectedly and sadly, as an adult, I have seen the worst of times in its history. I have seen our youths dismember body parts of fellow youths. I have seen beheaded bodies dumped in public places.

“It is my prayer that, in this new year, as a state, and as a people, we will not go through the sad experiences and commentaries of 2018.

“While we pray fervently for the grace of God, our recognised traditional rulers, the clergy, and other statesmen, must be prepared to call a spade, a spade, and courageously call erring politicians and deviant members of the society to order.

“As individuals, and as a group, we must learn to condemn that which is condemnable, and appreciate that which is good for all of us.”

The federal lawmaker wished Rivers people God’s guidance and prosperity in their endeavours, and the ability to surmount various challenges in the new year.
