Embattled Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has issued an apology to former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, following a heated exchange between Ezekwesili and Ebonyi North Senator, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, during a Senate hearing.

The altercation occurred on Tuesday during a session of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, where Akpoti-Uduaghan had lodged a fresh petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging intimidation, defamation, and sexual harassment.

Ezekwesili, who attended the hearing as a witness alongside Abiola Akiode, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, and petitioner Zubairu Yakubu, clashed with Nwaebonyi, who was representing Akpabio. During the session, Nwaebonyi persistently interrupted Ezekwesili, prompting her to rebuke him.

“Please, will you shut up?” Ezekwesili said, after asking him to “compose himself and stop making noise.”

Nwaebonyi responded angrily, saying, “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”

Following the heated exchange, Akpoti-Uduaghan took to X on Wednesday to express regret over the incident and apologize to Ezekwesili.

“Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership.

“Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education and democracy continues to inspire generations.

“A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience and selfless service. You are a hero,” she wrote.
