Napoli failed to score for the second time in a row, as the Italian champions were held scoreless at home by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
Antonio Conte’s team was hoping to rebound from a humiliating 6-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven on matchday three, but they struggled to create clear chances in the absence of injured midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.
Napoli began brightly but lacked communication in the last third. Rasmus Hojlund and Frank Anguissa collided while attempting to head in Eljif Elmas’ cross, and the winger’s goal-bound effort was diverted over by Scott McTominay.
The Scottish midfielder squandered two excellent chances in the second half, first taking a heavy touch as he rounded Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer and then skying an effort after Anguissa’s cutback.
Frankfurt substitute Ansgar Knauff forced a fine close-range save from Napoli’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but the Bundesliga team also lacked attacking quality.
Zetterer made a key double stop late into injury time to condemn Napoli to consecutive home blanks after drawing 0-0 with Como in Serie A on Saturday.
Both teams have four points from four Champions League games.
On matchday five, Napoli visit Qarabag (25 November, 20:00 BST), while Frankfurt face Atalanta in Germany (26 November, 20:00 BST).
