Nigerians have criticised former presidential aide Reno Omokri over his call on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to discipline their member, Corper Ushie Uguamaye.
Chronicle NG reports that Uguamaye, also known as Raye, openly criticised President Bola Tinubu over the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
Following her criticism of the Tinubu-led administration, Uguamaye alleged that NYSC officials began threatening her and she was summoned to appear before her local government inspector in Lagos on Monday, March 17.
Reacting to the outburst of the corps member, Omokri took to his page to assert that the corps member flouted the rule of the NYSC; hence, she should be disciplined.
He cited singer Davido as an example of young corpers who were disciplined years ago for flouting the rules of the NYSC.
Omokri wrote, ”This is not about politics or ethnicity. Under President Buhari, the NYSC disciplined music star Davido for flouting its rule. The people of the Southwest did not accuse the NYSC of tribalism, and the PDP did not accuse President Buhari of witch-hunting an opposition politician. There must be a rule of law in Nigeria rather than rule by sentiments.”
Omokri’s call for Uguamaye’s discipline has infuriated Nigerians, with many calling him ”a man without integrity.”
In various statements on X on Tuesday, Nigerians noted that Omokri, a stern critic of Tinubu who has turned the president’s apologist, ”speaks from both sides of the mouth.”
They mentioned that unlike other notable politicians and activists who condemned the threat against Uguamaye, Omokri’s call for her discipline is simply a move to massage Tinubu’s ego.
This publication highlights below some of the reactions of Nigerians to Omokri’s call for the discipline of Uguamaye.
Charles Prince, ”Discipline is good, but Reno Omokri should remember that he has said more terrible things against a sitting president. If she is your blood, will you say such? She speaks out of frustration. No one is above making mistakes. Is her word not real?”
Sam Nugwa, “Someone like Reno should be feared at all costs. A person who prior to the elections, was lambasting the Tinubu/APC government. Recently, he’s been dining or intends to dine with the same government he vehemently criticised. A hypocrite and a sellout.’
Chinwe Osonwa, ”Reno is really looking for work. This man who said horrible things about government in the past is now supporting Tinubu.’
Bright Daniel, ”You were one of those talking bad about the Tinubu administration back then, but after meeting him in person (Tinubu), you never saw anything wrong with him again.”
Lawal Olaide, ”Reno isn’t a good person from the history of his life. He’s the one who was chanting Tinubu’s name all about in London, calling him all sorts of names. Reno is looking for an appointment. I just pity some leader in this country.”
Peter Agada, ‘Imbecile looking for an appointment. President BAT does not believe in overnight loyalty.”
Emmanuel Nwobi, ”How can any sane person listen to or take Reno seriously? A man without integrity. A dog that goes back to eat its own vomit. Reno is a political tout as far as I am concerned.”
Immanuel Agbo, ”That appointment Reno is desperately looking for in this government will not come.”
Comfort David, ”What do you expect from Reno the belletivist? I hope those that hailed him last week will not speak against their mini god this week.”
Billy Ekama: ”Reno Omokri has no integrity.”
Mr Fancy, ”This man is shameless and desperately needs appointments from this government he insulted during the election; I have not seen a Cameroonian chameleon like him.”
Arinze Anyalabechi, ”The same way you were disciplined during your years of harassment of Buhari during his administration.
“No one takes you seriously as you keep making it clear that all your support is to secure a spot for yourself.
”When we see true and genuine activists we know. The likes of Sowore spoke, follow suit, and call out you find injustice. Keep deceiving yourself at your age.”
Rita Kayang, ”This man is a very stupid man. Can you imagine all this because of an appointment? We don’t like the truth in this country.”
Ephraim Chukwuedo, ”Lack of cash can make a man behave like a fool. The Reno case is an example. Imagine what the idiot is doing, up and down, just looking for a job from Tinubu. FKK did more than this; still, the APC overlooked him because they have known him as a betrayal, and that’s the same treatment they are giving this hopeless idiot.”
Adiukwu Chinedu, ”Omokri, a failed pastor turned half-baked politician, now a motivational speaker who speaks from both sides of his mouth.”
Adeoye Ojo, ”He lacks integrity. I unfollowed him a long time ago. He always speaks when it favours him; he doesn’t care if people around him are suffering or dying.”
