Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has joined radio station talkSPORT to be part of their extensive coverage of this summer’s European Championships. In a similar development, he also signed up to be an expert columnist for The Sun.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0x1ttvJMds]

Mourinho was axed by Spurs last week following an indifferent run of results, meaning his time in north London came to an end without him getting the chance to end the club’s trophy drought, despite the Carabao Cup final taking place just days after his departure.

However, the Portuguese chief, who has spent time at three Premier League clubs during his managerial career, appears to be taking a step back from the dugout for the time being, agreeing to join popular sports radio station talkSPORT to be part of their coverage for the upcoming Euros.

Mourinho will participate in a wide range of shows, including the live GameDay programming and traditional breakfast slots. He will also be part of the team for all three of England’s group stage matches against Croatia, Scotland and the Czech Republic.

On joining talkSPORT, Mourinho (who had not made a public statement since his exit from Tottenham) said: “talkSPORT is the fan’s station and I can’t wait to join in. The Euros will be a fantastic tournament and talkSPORT will capture all the excitement for fans.

“In my discussions with the team, I can feel their excitement for the Euros. I am thrilled to be part of it.”

Mourinho is no stranger to punditry, spending time with Sky Sports following his exit from Manchester United in December 2018. During his time with Sky, Mourinho often featured on Super Sunday, analysing the Premier League’s top matches.

On Mourinho’s decision to join talkSPORT for this summer’s eagerly anticipated Euros, talkSPORT chief Lee Clayton said: “Jose Mourinho is a box office signing for talkSPORT. I can’t wait to hear his views on England, Scotland and Wales as well as the other giants of the tournament.

“His experience and insight will be fascinating for talkSPORT listeners who will also get an exclusive opportunity to put questions to him in post-match phone-ins.

“talkSPORT proved in the recent Super League debacle that we are a powerful voice of the fans when their voices need to be heard. Adding one of the great titans of world football to our line-up will increase the noise. As well as his powerful, insightful opinions, I look forward to finding out if Jose can sing as part of our talkSPORT Breakfast Show fun.

“We aim to be the home of the fans for the Euros, with unique 24/7 coverage, including phone-ins, the latest news stories from inside the training camps, live commentaries and on the road shows plus Jose Mourinho.

“Welcome to the team, Jose. Here’s to a wonderful tournament as the fans return to stadiums – and we create the noise of the competition.”
