The military and intelligence community are prepared to address any danger to national security, according to a statement from the Defence Headquarters expressing commitment to a peaceful transition to the new administration on May 29.

At the biweekly press conference on the activities of the armed forces on Thursday in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, Director, Defence Media Operations, provided the assurance.

Danmadami advised the population to ignore the anxiety brought on by Nigeria’s opponents’ predictions of security dangers.

“Like the general elections have passed and the victors have been declared, people are just being cautious to make rumours about circumstances that do not exist.

Although nothing has occurred, many have been expecting that this nation would end.

“Members of the Armed Forces will continue to give their all, as I always assure you, and we are not taking our foot off the gas in our efforts to maintain peace and stability.

“I can promise you that there are many follow-up operations taking place every day and that the intelligence community is working around the clock, just like the military forces, to maintain peace and stability.

As stated in the brief for today, “persons who are on the edge of committing crime are being detained; persons who are transporting ammunition from one location to another in order to go and create mayhem are being apprehended daily.

Therefore, people shouldn’t be concerned that there would be widespread disaster when they hand over.

“I can promise you that we are prepared to handle any disaster that emerges.

We are prepared for it, so people should simply go on with their regular tasks and ignore the unwarranted anxiety they are causing.

There is no need for concern; everything is under control, he said.

Danmadami also reassured the populace that the Sallah will be observed, and he said that although there could be one or two exceptional circumstances, the military and other security services would be prepared to handle them.
