Mojisola Meranda has resigned her position as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Meranda read her resignation letter out at the plenary Monday afternoon,” she said at a special plenary on Monday.

Meranda assumed office on January 13, 2025, following the ouster of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who, according to reports, is poised for reinstatement.

Despite her brief tenure, lawmakers lauded her ability to lead effectively and foster a positive atmosphere in the Assembly.

“The entire chamber is in tears. You have restored the spirit of friendship, comradeship, and loyalty to this House. We have seen the sense of belonging and the sense that the party is supreme,” lawmaker Temitope Adewale said.

“To my dear colleagues, this is not the end; this is Asiwaju’s House. Let’s not lose hope; things will change for the better,” he added.

“You did very well, but as we know, we are politicians, and as politicians, our party is supreme. We’re proud party men, and our party has spoken. I thank the deputy speaker and everyone that may be affected. We are around to obey the party; we are not ashamed of it. Madam Speaker, I pray for you; God Almighty will be with you.”

“You have listened to the Speaker and are willing to let go,” another lawmaker said.
