Kylian Mbappe scored a penalty in stoppage time to help Real Madrid narrowly win 9-men over Rayo Vallecano.
Nobel Mendy’s foul on Brahim Diaz in the 98th minute provided Mbappe the opportunity to bring Real Madrid within one point of Barcelona in the La Liga title chase.
Real’s Vinicius Junior opened the goal shortly after Jude Bellingham was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Rayo Vallecano battled back and equalized shortly after the interval through Jorge de Frutos.
Real’s Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga struck the woodwork, while Vallecano were reduced to ten men with 10 minutes of normal time remaining after Pathe Cisse was sent off for a nasty challenge on Dani Cebellos.
Before Mbappe scored from the penalty spot, the home crowd became angry, and there was further drama when Pep Chavarria was issued a second yellow card and sent off in the 103rd minute.
