The governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has announced the lifting of the state’s ban on telecommunications services.

He made the declaration on Saturday at an event in Gusau, the state capital, stating that telecommunications services would resume on Monday.

“I want to announce today (Saturday) that we have taken a decision to lift the ban on telecommunications in the state,” the governor was quoted as saying in a statement by Zailani Bappa, his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media, and Communications.

“God’s Willing, as from next Monday we shall have that effected.”

He added that the decision to defer the measure was influenced by an encouraging report of tranquillity in the state’s nooks and crannies.

Governor Matawalle, who made the statement at the state chapter of the All Progress (APC) convention held at the trade fair complex in Gusau, believes bandits have taken the toll intended by the policy.

He thanked the people of the state for their patience and endurance during this challenging time and assured them that his administration will continue to take whatever steps were required to maintain peace and defend their lives and property.

At the conclusion of the convention, the governor urged APC members in the state to support the state’s new executive committee members.

The convention was presided over by Ibrahim Masari, the Planning Committee Chairman from the APC’s National Headquarters, who announced a party consensus in all 36 elective positions.

Senator Sahabi Yau, who represents Zamfara South senatorial district in the National Assembly, proposed the motion for consensus, which was seconded by Sani Jaji, a state party leader.

Mr Tukur Dan Fulani Gusau was re-elected as the newly elected chairman of the APC in Zamfara, while Mr Ibrahim Dangaladima was named the party’s new secretary in the state.

The new EXCO members were elected when the party’s Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Hassan Nasiha, was dissolved by a resolution proposed by Mamuda Shinkafi, a former governor of the state.
