Manchester United have signed Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a season-long loan from Fiorentina.

United will pay a loan fee of £8.6 million (10 million euros), with the option to make the deal permanent for £17.1 million (20 million euros) plus £4.2 million (5 million euros) in add-ons.

Amrabat, 27, described himself as “representing the club of my dreams.”

He played with La Viola for three seasons, appearing in 92 league games and scoring once.

Morocco’s midfielder has 49 international caps and helped his side finish fourth at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Fiorentina left Amrabat out of their team for both legs of their Europa League play-off against Rapid Vienna, which they won 2-1 on aggregate on Thursday.

“I’ve had to be patient for this moment, but I’m someone who always listens to her heart,” he explained.

“I am a passionate player; I want to bring that energy to the squad, and I will give everything I have for the team in every action I take.”

“I understand Erik ten Hag’s working style and what he expects from his players. His coaching and leadership helped me so much earlier in my career as a player; I know he will help me bring out the best in me so that I can help the group be successful this season.”

“Sofyan’s committed, high-energy approach to the game fits perfectly with the group that we are building here,” football director John Murtough stated.

“We are confident that Sofyan’s mentality, dynamism, and technical abilities will benefit the squad as we strive for success in all competitions this season.”
