A convicted fraudster, Abozo, has been sentenced to prison for defrauding a victim of N62 million under the pretense of selling two plots of land.

The court also ordered him to make full restitution of the amount to the victim, Engineer Samuel Segher.

Abozo’s journey to the correctional centre began when he was arrested for obtaining N62 million from Engineer Segher, promising to sell him two plots of land. However, Abozo neither delivered the land nor refunded the money, leading to legal action.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed the sentencing in a statement issued on Thursday. “The convict, Abozo, was found guilty of obtaining money under false pretenses. The court has mandated him to return the sum of N62 million to the victim, Samuel Segher, as restitution,” Oyewale said.

The fraudulent transaction left Engineer Segher devastated, as the land deal turned out to be a scheme. Following his arrest and subsequent trial, Abozo was handed a custodial sentence and is expected to serve time at a correctional center.

“The judgment underscores the resolve of law enforcement agencies to bring fraudsters to justice and recover the proceeds of their illicit activities. We remain committed to protecting citizens from financial crimes,” Oyewale added.

As part of the sentencing, Abozo was instructed to make full restitution to the victim. Failure to do so could lead to further legal consequences.

This case highlights the importance of due diligence in real estate transactions and sends a strong message about the legal repercussions of fraudulent schemes.
