A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Lagos state.
It was gathered that the suspect is neighbour to the victim’s family.
The incident was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the Lagos state police command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu on Sunday.
Ajisebutu revealed that the suspect carried out the dastardly act when his wife went for a church vigil.
“The victim’s mother had kept her in the custody of the suspect’s wife when she travelled out of town for three weeks.
“According to the victim’s mother when she returned from the journey, the victim reported to her that she was defiled by the suspect.
“However, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime while pleading for mercy,’’ CSP Ajisebutu said.
He added that the victim has been hospitalised and taken care of.
“The case has also been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for investigation and prosecution on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu,” he added.
