French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized France’s support for Nigeria in resolving its security difficulties, particularly the terrorist threat in the country’s north.
In a message posted on X on Sunday, Macron stated that he spoke with President Bola Tinubu and that France will strengthen its relationship with Nigerian authorities.
He wrote, “I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT.
“I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North.
“At his (Tinubu’s) request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations.
“We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator,” the French president added.
Macron also announced that, in response to Tinubu’s request, his government will work with the federal government to assist affected areas.
Macron’s statement comes after a series of gunman attacks and kidnappings, mainly in the northern area, that have sparked international outrage.
President Donald Trump recently declared Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern for Religious Freedom Violations, threatening US military intervention.
The Federal Government has constantly denied charges of Christian persecution, arguing that insecurity in Nigeria affects all religions.
The issue has forced the federal government to request diplomatic assistance from the international community.
On November 20, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at the Pentagon to discuss ways to solve the matter.
