Luis Diaz score twice to enable 10-man Bayern Munich to preserve their unbeaten start to the season, defeating defending European champions Paris St-Germain.
The Germans won 16 consecutive games in all competitions, including four out of four in the Champions League, to lead the league phase standings.
Diaz had a mixed night, scoring twice to put Bayern ahead before getting sent off on the stroke of halftime for a reckless challenge from behind on Achraf Hakimi.
The Moroccan full-back was in tears when he was taken off with a serious-looking ankle injury with the AFCON competition to be held in his home country in December.
Hakimi exited the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot, and PSG captain Marquinhos stated, “We have to wait for the tests; they’ve done some minor tests.”
In a hectic first half at Parc des Princes, Vincent Kompany’s team showed daring and determination to press high up the pitch, which paid off when Diaz scored in the fourth minute.
Ousmane Dembele believed he had leveled midway through the half with PSG’s first chance of the game, a chest-in from close range, but his effort was flagged for offside.
The Ballon d’Or winner then exited the pitch with what seemed to be a calf injury shortly after.
Bayern continued to question the hosts and were extremely unlucky when Serge Gnabry’s shot bounced off one post and onto the other.
But Diaz scored his second in the 32nd minute, snatching control from a sluggish Marquinhos and finishing coolly.
The Colombian winger, however, was sent off just before the interval for a tackle on Hakimi. A yellow card was upgraded to a red after a video assistance referee (VAR) review, leaving the Moroccan plainly agitated.
PSG threw everything at Bayern in the second half, but they kept hitting a brick wall and looked like they’d never get back into the game.
But with 16 minutes left, replacement Joao Neves got half a yard of space and fired a bicycle kick past Manuel Neuer.
That effort rekindled PSG, and Neuer faced a bombardment of efforts in the dying minutes, making three superb saves to deny Neves, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Vitinha, as the holders suffered their first defeat of the season.
PSG will play host to Tottenham on Wednesday, 26 November (20:00 GMT), while Bayern visits Arsenal—who have also won all four games—on the same night (20:00 GMT).
