There was low voter turnout on Saturday morning at several polling units in the Abuja Municipal Area Council during the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

As election officials began voting operations, our correspondent visited polling unit 06, 007, and 008 in the City Center Registration Area and saw low voter turnout.

Voting in Polling Unit 006 started at 8:30 a.m., but by 9:50 a.m., very few people had cast their ballots. The sluggish turnout worried the presiding officer.

“We are still waiting for people to come out and vote. Though we commenced at 8:30 a.m., as of 9:50 a.m., only seven people have voted,” the officer told our correspondent.

In the same vein, at Polling Unit 008, officials attended to the few voters present while awaiting the arrival of more residents. Despite the low turnout, electoral materials and machines were reported to be functioning properly.

“Everything is going on fine. There are no issues with the machines for now. We are waiting for more voters,” another presiding officer said.

To maintain order and safeguard election materials, security guards were conspicuously positioned throughout the voting places.

To ensure a peaceful voting atmosphere, officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, and Nigeria Correctional Service were deployed.
