The Department for Combating Illegal Migration in Libya has deported seven Nigerians, three Bangladeshis, and three Ghanaians who were arrested at the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre.
The deportees were flown out of the country through Benina International Airport in Benghazi.
Migrant Rescue Watch reported on Tuesday via their X handle that these folks were deported after breaking Libyan law.
The statement read, “DCIM deported 13 migrants (3 Bangladeshis, 3 Ghanaians, and 7 Nigerians) from the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre via Benina International Airport in Benghazi. All individuals were deported for violating laws in force in the Libyan state.”
This comes after the expatriate community in Libya has reported widespread arrests and significant fines as reactions unfold following the recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This situation emerged after the Nigeria Football Federation lodged a formal complaint regarding the treatment of the Super Eagles during their trip to the country for a crucial qualifier in the lead-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chronicle NG reports that the Nigerian team faced an ordeal upon landing at Al-Abraq Airport, where they were detained for over 20 hours instead of proceeding to Benghazi to play against the Libyan national team.
Initially destined for Benghazi Airport, the Super Eagles’ flight was diverted at the last minute due to an instruction from the country’s authorities, leading to a significant disruption in their travel plans.
