The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that the reported sexual assault case involving TikToker Mirabel occurred outside its jurisdiction and has been transferred to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.
Mirabel recently posted a series of emotional videos detailing an alleged assault that took place in her home on February 15.
In the clips, she recounted that she was at home when she heard a knock on her door. Thinking it was a neighbour, she opened the door, only for a stranger to allegedly force his way inside.
She said that during the ensuing struggle, she lost consciousness and later woke up to discover she was being assaulted.
In an earlier statement, the DSVA acknowledged the case and revealed that it was working to reach the young woman.
In a follow-up statement released on Wednesday, the agency confirmed that it had contacted a close friend of the survivor, who disclosed that Mirabel had already been discharged from the hospital.
The DSVA stated that upon investigation, it discovered the alleged incident took place in Ogun State, placing it outside its legal jurisdiction.
The agency noted that, in a bid to ensure continued support for the survivor, all relevant information had been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.
It expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is now handling the matter and encouraged the survivor to fully cooperate with investigators to ensure justice is served.
“Following our earlier statement and the widespread public response, we successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital. We sincerely appreciate members of the public who provided helpful information via our direct messages, as well as everyone who tagged the Agency to ensure swift intervention,” the statement read.
“We have since confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency. In the spirit of interagency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information at our disposal has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.
“We understand that the Ogun State Police Command (@OgunPoliceNG) is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and due process.”
