The Lagos State Taskforce conducted a follow-up exercise and mop-up operation on the Lekki Coastal Road to reinforce its mandate of providing a calm and habitable environment for inhabitants along that axis by clearing out shanties and criminal hideouts.
The operation, which began in the early hours of Sunday lasted roughly six hours. It was led by the agency’s chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who said that 38 recalcitrant suspects were arrested.
Jejeloye further revealed that the improvised shanties beside the roadside were dismantled to allow unfettered vehicular passage along that route.
The chairman warned all squatters and unscrupulous elements who try to call the agency’s bluff to reconsider and turn over a new leaf, or face prosecution.
He urged the area’s roadside vendors to relocate their items to the approved market complex rather than defacing the streets and roadways.
“We will continue to clear this area for as long as it takes to achieve our goal of creating a society that is safe and habitable for residents and Lagosians as a whole,” the Taskforce boss noted.
