In a comprehensive operation aimed at ridding the Lekki-Epe Motorway of miscreants and suspected criminals who have been terrorising motorists and residents in the area, the Lagos State Taskforce commenced operations on Friday to bring normalcy to the locality.

Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Press and Public Affairs of the Taskforce, announced this in a statement on Friday.

The operation, which took place at major areas such as Chisco Roundabout, Elegushi, Ikate Roundabout, and Marwa Bus Stop, was carried out in response to a series of complaints received by the agency through its feedback channels from concerned motorists and residents.

These individuals described an alarming increase in criminal activity, particularly around rush hour, when hoodlums would lurk at inconspicuous locations along the motorway to prey on unwary pedestrians and drivers.

Speaking on the operation, CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, under special directions from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, emphasised the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of all Lagos residents.

“We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage in their own communities. The state government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property. This operation is a testament to our unwavering dedication to this cause,” the chairman stated.

The Lagos State Taskforce, which was met with widespread applause from motorists who witnessed the operation, has assured residents that this exercise is part of its mandate, as outlined in the State’s THEMES PLUS Agenda, to restore law and order along the Lekki-Epe Motorway and throughout the Metropolis.

CSP Akerele further stated that the agency conducted initial surveillance in the region and discovered that these miscreants use the pedestrian bridges at Ikate and Marwa Bus Stop to detect broken down vehicles and pounce on the occupants.

He told them that all of this was no longer necessary because their operations had been thoroughly grounded. Motorists and residents should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the agency or the nearest police station.

“We remain on high alert and will continue to carry out surveillance and sting operations aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of motorists and residents along this axis and beyond,” he stated.
