Residents of Lagos and parts of Ogun State are set to endure a 25-day daily power outage, beginning Monday, July 28, as announced by power distribution companies.

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) confirmed that the outage is due to planned maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which will involve a critical upgrade on one of its major transmission lines.

Speaking on TVC, ANED’s Chief Executive Officer, Sunday Oduntan, explained that the power cuts will take place daily between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm and will affect the entirety of Lagos and parts of Ogun State including Sagamu, Ogijo, and Abeokuta.

According to the TCN, “The upgrade involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire fibre cable on the Omotosho/Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, scheduled from July 28, 2025, to August 21, 2025, from 8 am to 5 pm.”

The TCN noted that this infrastructure upgrade received approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigeria Independent System Operator.

It further explained, “Upon completion, the upgrade will enable full operationalisation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, enhancing real-time monitoring and management of the power grid.”

Oduntan added, “The power system would be shut down for safety reasons during the course of the upgrade.”

In a notice to customers, Ikeja Electric stated: “Please be informed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria will carry out scheduled maintenance on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line from Monday, July 28, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily.

“During this period, customers may experience intermittent power supply and load shedding across our network due to the planned TCN outage. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause.”

Similarly, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) said the disruption was “to enable works to be safely carried out” on the same transmission line. The company warned customers that the outage and load shedding would affect its entire coverage area.

Despite the widespread inconvenience expected, Oduntan assured customers that power will be restored after each day’s work and that other circuits will remain operational to support supply to Lagos.
