Unknown commercial bus driver perished in a collision between his bus and a BRT vehicle on Wednesday in Ogudu, Lagos, on the Oworonshoki Motorway.

The commercial bus was travelling from Lagos Island to the state’s Ojodu Berger region when the accident happened, according to newsmen.

Eyewitnesses said that the commercial bus lost control while travelling at high speed crossing the Ifako Bridge and crashed with the BRT.

The bus is alleged to have somersaulted twice during the incident, and the driver passed away instantly.

Hoodlums also were enraged at the event, which happened about 8am, and set the BRT bus on fire and vandalised it.Seven people were hurt in the collision, according to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.

He said, “While other emergency responders, such as Traffic Police Officers, assisted LASTMA officials at the scene of the accident, hoodlums in the neighbourhood set ablaze the bus owned by the Lagos State Bus Service Limited after learning that the commercial driver had died and that his body was lying next to the overturned commercial bus.

“However, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, warned members of the public, particularly street urchins, not to take laws into their own hands at any accident scene, but to allow appropriate authorities to do what is necessary.

“In a statement issued by Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, the agency also acknowledged the occurrence.

A vehicle accident that happened in Anambra State on Tuesday also claimed the lives of two people and injured five others.

Along the Nteje-Onitsha Motorway, the collision allegedly happened at Tempo, around 300 metres from Odumodu Junction.

Young Shall Grow Motors’ commercial Toyota Sienna with the licence plate LND502YE was involved in the lone collision.

Eyewitnesses said the driver, who was supposedly travelling at maximum speed, lost control of the car, struck a person, somersaulted, and then crashed.

Seven people were said to have been involved in the collision.

Further information revealed that one person inside the car and one pedestrian, a woman crossing the street, perished, while four individuals of the male and female gender suffered various degrees of injuries.

The acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the accident on Wednesday and blamed speeding as the cause of the disaster.

FRSC first responders, according to Onabe, took the wounded victims from Nteje to a hospital in Umunya, where it was determined that they had passed away.

“The Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, Sector Commander, Anambra State, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased victims and sent his prayers to the injured,” she added.
