The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has confiscated more than 200 vehicles deemed unroadworthy in a state-wide enforcement drive.

According to a press release issued on Sunday by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and signed by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, the operation was spearheaded by the VIS Director, Mr. Akin-George Fashola.

Fashola, who led the recent enforcement effort, said the initiative was part of ongoing measures to improve road safety and curb accidents resulting from poorly maintained vehicles.

Explaining the purpose of the exercise, he said, “The operation is not restricted to private vehicles alone, as is commonly believed, but extends to all categories of vehicles contributing to the state’s transport ecosystem.”

He highlighted that many of the impounded vehicles included commercial minibuses such as danfos and korope.

Fashola also urged vehicle owners, particularly those operating in the commercial transport sector, to prioritize safety and ensure their vehicles meet official roadworthiness standards.

“All vehicle owners, especially those intending to use their vehicles for commercial purposes, are urged to ensure they meet the required roadworthiness standards.”

“Before commercialising your vehicle, make sure it is fit for the road. You can even take it to any of our annex offices for proper inspection before putting it into operation,” he advised.

He concluded by reaffirming the agency’s dedication to enforcing road safety measures across Lagos.

“We are committed to sustaining the enforcement exercise aimed at improving road safety and promoting a safer, more efficient transport system in Lagos.”
