The Lagos State Government increased enforcement by executing various cleanup activities around the state on Thursday.
According to a video posted on X on Friday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the operations targeted locations where vendors had encroached on highways, blocking traffic and jeopardizing public safety.
“Our Environmental Task Force intervened at Ogudu Road by Ojota Junction, Iyana-Ipaja Under Bridge, and Egbeda Junction, where traders had encroached on the road, obstructing traffic and compromising public safety. During the operations, goods and wares were seized, and 15 offenders were arrested,” Wahab said.
All suspects will be arraigned in court, and any seized property will be forfeited to the state in accordance with existing legislation. The Commissioner stressed that street dealing is still banned in Lagos.
“Street trading remains illegal in Lagos, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly and fairly to keep our roads safe, orderly, and free for all road users,” Wahab added.
Authorities have asked citizens and traders to follow legislation in order to make roadways safer and more accessible for all.
