Lagos State Government has announced the death of two coronaviruses (COVID-19) patients in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, tweeted on Thursday, saying the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the state was now 18.

“74 new #COVID19 cases confirmed in Lagos on the 22nd of April, 2020. A total number of confirmed #COVID19 cases in Lagos rises to 512,” he wrote.

“Lagos recorded 2 more #COVID19 related deaths. #COVID19Lagos deaths are now 18.”

Neither the commissioner nor the state ministry of health gave further information on the deceased.

Abayomi, however, urged Lagosians to embrace the government’s policy of using face masks in public places, saying Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has “demonstrated leadership with the use of locally made face mask.”

In the space of a week, the casualty in Lagos has risen by almost 300 per cent, from six to 18.

The positive cases have also surged. From 192 this time last week to 512, signalling a similar percentage.
