The Lagos State Government has established an anti-okada squad to enforce the commercial motorbike ban across the state’s six Local Governments and nine Local Council Development Areas.

The team will work alongside the police to enforce the restriction in accordance with the 2018 Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL).

In Lagos State, the ban on okada has been in place since June 1, 2022, in six LGAs. Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa are among the affected LGAs.

Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the Commissioner for Transportation, said that the special anti-okada squad will report to the Police, and he asked Lagosians to work with the State Government to tackle the Okada menace.

While urging the public to report any malicious activities of the squad to the Ministry of Transportation or through the help/complaint lines, he explained that such reports will help the government produce feedback in order to fine-tune measures for the protection of lives and property.

He did, however, warn that those apprehended will be subjected to the full force of the law, as stipulated in Section 46, sub-sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018.

Motorcycles impounded would be crushed in a public location, according to Oladeinde.

Mr Kamar Olowoshago, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, also advised anti-Okada officials to be dedicated and honest in their work.
