La Liga criticized Sevilla fans’ threats and intimidation of their own players and directors on Monday, following their third consecutive league defeat.
Sevilla, 17th in the Spanish top division, lost 1-0 away to bottom club Real Oviedo on Sunday, and some fans insulted the squad at the airport upon their return, while others wearing masks were at the club training grounds.
In a statement, it stated that this behavior “unacceptably crosses the line of legitimate criticism and sporting expression.”
Earlier this season, some Sevilla fans attempted to force their way into the training site to confront the players.
La Liga stated that they will report the incident to Spanish authorities and will continue to take action in the future if similar incidents occur.
“Anyone who crosses the line from criticism into threats, intimidation, or harassment stops acting as a fan and starts acting as a violent individual,” said La Liga. “And against violent individuals, La Liga acts and will act.”
With eight games remaining in the season, Sevilla is two points above the relegation zone and has not won in five matches.
