Amoka Monday, the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, has imposed a curfew across the council area, citing security concerns following a ban on political rallies and unregulated public gatherings.

In a statement personally signed by the chairman on Monday, he stated that the curfew was required to ensure peace and order in accordance with the Kogi State Government and the state’s Commissioner of Police.

“The curfew, which takes immediate effect, restricts movement and gatherings in designated areas.

“Anyone found loitering or assembling in restricted zones without clearance from the relevant authorities will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement read.

The curfew comes ahead of the planned homecoming Sallah rally by Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Chronicle NG reports that Natasha has vowed to go ahead with the homecoming rally despite a ban on political gathering in the state.

Also, the police in a statement on Tuesday, advised Natasha to jettison her planned rally, citing security concerns.

Monday stressed that the security and stability of residents remain his administration’s priority, warning that any actions capable of disrupting public peace would not be tolerated.

“The safety of our people is paramount. We will not allow any situation that could jeopardise the peace and stability of our communities,” he added.

The chairman mentioned that the decision to impose the curfew was a proactive measure to prevent any potential security breaches.

He informed everyone that the LG administration is collaborating closely with security authorities to monitor the situation and take appropriate steps to maintain law and order.

The curfew and restriction on political rallies are part of a larger effort by the Kogi State Government to promote calm, combat misinformation, and ensure that all public events are lawful.

Residents have been advised to follow the directive and work with security officials to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

The administration also urged the public to remain calm and carry out their everyday activities in accordance with the law.
