The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, has reportedly issued a directive prohibiting church activities in residential buildings across the emirate.
The directive follows petitions from concerned residents, prompting the Emir to establish a special investigative committee.
According to sources, the committee discovered that a church in Yadi Quarters, Rano town, was holding services on a residential property without sufficient legal license.
Rano is home to 27 registered churches where Christians can worship without interruption. However, reports of unauthorized religious gatherings in private homes sparked significant anxiety among residents.
Following the committee’s recommendations, the Emir ordered an immediate halt to all church services in residential structures to avoid any potential disruption to public order.
Alhaji Umar Isa Sarki, the investigation committee’s secretary, stated that many petitions had been filed questioning the legality of such meetings.
The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kano chapter, has yet to respond to the directive at the time of filing this report.
