The Kaduna State Security Council lifted the curfew that had been imposed between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. in the Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan areas on Tuesday.

Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, made this declaration on Tuesday.

“After an extensive review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs, the Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, has removed the current 6 pm to 8 am curfew completely.

“The removal of the curfew is effective immediately, from today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024,” the statement read.

The state security council had earlier eased the 24-hour curfew imposed in response to the violence that greeted the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests in the state.

However, in the statement, Aruwan stated that the curfew was lifted following a thorough assessment of the security situation in these areas.

He asked law-abiding citizens to continue their everyday activities without time constraints in both cities. However, the state government issued a stern warning about public gatherings and processions, advising locals to seek approval from the appropriate authorities to avoid disrupting public order.

The statement stressed that security personnel would stay watchful and would not hesitate to intervene against any people or groups threatening peace.

The governor underlined his commitment to inclusive governance and stated that he would continue to interact with all essential stakeholders to promote peace and unity in Kaduna State.

“The Kaduna State Security Council, after an extensive review last night, unanimously agreed to lift the curfew and reaffirmed its dedication to the safety and security of all residents,” the statement concluded.
