Labour unions and the Federal Government have agreed to adjourn negotiations on the proposed percentage of salary increase for Grade Level 07-14 and Grade Level 15-17.

Labour had resorted to the strike option from October 17 if the government failed to reach a concensus with it on October 16 over the consequential adjustments of the minimum wage.

Chronicle NG had reported that at the ongoing meeting, the organised labour and representatives of the Federal Government broke into discussions to consider both positions on the percentage on salary increase.

Providing an update on the deliberations, the Honourable Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) said labour leaders and the government have agreed to adjourn negotiations.

“It’s past 2:00 am and both sides (labour and government) have decided to adjourn the negotiations to continue by 7pm later today, Thursday, October 17th, to iron out some outstanding grey areas,” he wrote on his official Twitter page.

Organised labour had first demanded a 29 per cent salary increase for officers on salary level 07 to 14 and 24 per cent adjustment for officers on salary grade level 15 to 17.

The Federal Government, however, presented a proposal of 11 per cent salary increase for officers on grade level 07 to 14 and 6.5 per cent adjustment for workers of grade level 15 to 17.
