The wife of a former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Mrs. Beatrice, has been released from the United Kingdom’s prison.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Chronicle NG that Beatrice, who was sentenced to five years in UK prison, returned to the country on Tuesday. She is believed to be currently in Abuja.

Our correspondent, however, gathered that there is jubilation currently going on in her family house in the Mpu community of the Aninriinri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

A United Kingdom court sentenced Beatrice, her husband, and one Obinna Obeta to various jail terms in 2023 for their roles in the organ-trafficking plan.

Speaking with our correspondent during the community-wide celebration, Mr. Benjamin Chijioke, President of Mpu Town Union Federated, described her return as a big relief for the entire town.

Chijioke, on the other hand, pleaded to God to intervene in the situation of their son, Ekweremadu, so that he, too, could come home in good health, like his wife.

He said, “Our joy as Mpu people knows no bounds. It is a great day for us. Since morning, there has been jubilation and celebration in all the villages.

“People are shedding tears of joy, especially those that were depending on the philanthropic disposition of the family to survive. Today is our Orie market day; the whole market was agog with celebration.

“We thank God and also pray that God will intervene so that our illustrious aeon and leader, Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will join his family soonest. I don’t know what to say again because their absence has brought a huge setback to the community. We missed them a lot, but we thank God for everything.”

Also addressing the council, Mpu Ward, Ogbuka Edwin, thanked God for her return, stating that Ekweremadu and his wife’s absence had left a significant gap in the community.

Edwin said, “Today is like a public holiday in Mpu Community. The news was a cheerful one. The absence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife created a big gap in the community.

“We are not going to relent in our prayers until our hero and leader joins his family, and we are trusting what God can do. It is celebration galore.”
