Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has expressed sadness over the death of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, who died yesterday after fainting in his office in Yenagoa.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo was described by Dr. Jonathan as a dedicated public servant, a true patriot, and a steadfast steward of Bayelsa State and Nigeria.
Similarly, Senator Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa State, and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the umbrella body of the thirty-six state governors, have lamented the loss of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Jonathan stated that over his years in public service, the late Deputy Governor served the people of Bayelsa with unshakable commitment and garnered universal acclaim.
He praised Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s hard work, dedication, and lifelong pursuit of education, emphasizing the distinction he brought to every position he occupied.
“From his service as Commissioner, to the Senate, and later as Deputy Governor, Senator Ewhrudjakpo was known for his depth, insightful grasp of governance, eloquence, and warm sense of humor,” Jonathan said.
According to NGF’s Director of Media and Strategic Communications, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the organization is profoundly grieved to learn of the Deputy Governor’s loss.
According to the statement, the late deputy governor was a dedicated public servant and a worthy deputy who was imaginative and served his state with devotion and dedication, adding that his inspiring values about public service are outstanding and will be remembered by his friends and colleagues.
Former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson paid tribute to the late deputy governor, describing him as a rare blend of competence, knowledge, loyalty, and selflessness that he claimed remained consistent during their decades-long partnership.
Dickson observed that Ewhrudjakpo differentiated himself during the most difficult moments by embodying the values and convictions he had learned during years of mentorship.
“He lived a simple life with profound impact. He was irreplaceable, formidable in intellect and learning, emotionally stable, mature, and principled,” Dickson stated.
