The Jigawa State Government has formed a panel to investigate the Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, who was arrested by Kano State Hisbah for reportedly having an unlawful affair with a married woman in Kano.

The investigation followed Sankara’s suspension by Governor Umar Namadi.

According to Dabba Sufi, Director General of the Hisbah Board, Sankara was caught on Friday in Kano in an unfinished building with a housewife.

Sufi stated that the arrest was made feasible by intelligence tracking after getting a number of reports regarding his relationship with the married woman.

But Sankara refuted the allegations, calling them unfounded, baseless, and vicious.

He claimed the accusations were an intentional attempt to destroy his reputation and vowed to take legal action against those who circulated the false claims.

He said, “My attention has been drawn to a recent media report alleging that I, Auwal D. Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Jigawa State Government, have been arrested by the Kano Hisbah Command on charges of having an affair with a married woman.

“I wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation. I urge the general public to disregard this fabricated story, concocted by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity.”

However, the Jigawa State Government suspended the commissioner on Saturday to allow for a full inquiry, ensure transparency, and protect the state’s integrity.

Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, stated in a statement on Saturday that the decision was made in light of recent charges that require a full investigation to promote openness and protect the integrity of the State Administration.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”
