The Israeli military announced on Thursday that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen. The Iran-backed Huthi rebels have claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a statement on Telegram, Israel’s army said, “the air force intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.”
Huthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, stated that the group had fired a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” aimed at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport.
Since the October 2023 attack on Israel by its Palestinian ally, Hamas, which triggered the Gaza war, the Yemeni rebels have repeatedly targeted Israel with missiles and drones.
The Houthis, who say their actions are in solidarity with the Palestinians, halted their attacks during a two-month Gaza ceasefire that ended in March but resumed them after Israel recommenced large-scale military operations.
In response, Israel has carried out multiple retaliatory strikes in Yemen, hitting Huthi-controlled ports and the airport in the rebel-held capital, Sanaa.
