The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured the conviction of one Harry Prince Okotie for pretending to be Thomas Toud, a Drilling Engineer from South Korea on Facebook.
Okotie was on Monday, 23rd August, 2021 arraigned before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. He was sentenced to 6 months in prison.
The suspect was convicted based on his guilty plea to the one count charge brought against him by the EFCC. The convict used the false identity to obtain the sum of $I, 500 (One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars) from one Richamar, a citizen of the Philippines in the guise of being in a romantic relationship with her.
He was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of fine of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand) Naira. He is also to forfeit the sum of N220,000 (Two Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira), being proceeds of the crime , to the Federal Government.
