The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has so far uploaded 97.50 percent of results from the Anambra State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal.
Our correspondent checked the INEC website at 7:39 p.m. and saw an update on Saturday.
Out of the 5,718 polling stations where the election was held, results from 5,577 have been posted to the portal.
The election had 18 candidates—16 men and two women—from various political parties.
Among the leading candidates are the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance; Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress; and George Nnadubem Moghalu of the Labour Party.
Others include Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party, Paul Chukwuka Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party, and a number of other candidates from various political platforms.
Dayo Oketola, INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, stated on Saturday that the election had received widespread praise for its organization and transparency.
“With reports of seamless operations, strong security coordination, and near-total PVC collection, both domestic and international observers have described the Anambra governorship election as a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a clear testament to the renewed confidence in INEC’s leadership and electoral integrity.”
However, some lawmakers and candidates stated that incidences of vote-buying happened in portions of the state when voters trooped out to elect a new governor.
