Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has announced a new extension for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit deadline, moving it from August 12 to October 2, 2025.

According to a statement released on Monday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the decision aims to allow for the “meticulous scrutiny” of applications to ensure that only eligible individuals receive permits in line with national security considerations.

Adejobi explained that the extra time will also enable the police to fine-tune both digital and physical verification processes “to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”

He reminded the public that applications must be submitted exclusively via possap.gov.ng and urged Nigerians to report any incidents of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing through the police hotline: 08147818871.

The IGP expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their cooperation, noting that the policy is designed to balance convenience with robust security measures.

“This decision follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive.”

“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.” the statement reads.
