Igor Tudor appointed as Tottenham interim manager

Tottenham confirmed the appointment of Igor Tudor as their interim manager until the end of the season on Saturday.

Former Juventus boss Tudor replaces Thomas Frank, who was relieved of his duties on Wednesday with Tottenham languishing only five points above the Premier League relegation zone.

The Croatian and Tottenham’s hierarchy reached a verbal agreement on Friday, and the deal has now been sealed.

“It is an honor to join this club at an important moment,” Tudor said.

“I understand the responsibility I have been handed, and my focus is clear. To bring greater consistency to our performances and compete with conviction in every match.

“There is strong quality in this playing squad, and my job is to organize it, energize it, and improve our results quickly.”

Tudor inherited a Juventus squad that was outside the Champions League positions late in the 2024-25 season, but he led them to fourth place after losing only one of his first 11 games in command.

He was unable to reproduce his form this season and suffered the consequences.

The 47-year-old was fired in October after the Italian team went eight games without a win, leaving them in ninth place in Serie A.

Tudor has also been in charge of Lazio, Marseille, Verona, Hajduk Split, Galatasaray, and Udinese.

The former Croatian defender will be charged with clearing up the wreckage created by Frank, who was fired the day after a 2-1 loss to Newcastle on Tuesday.

Frank, who was hired from Brentford last year following Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal, was fired after only two wins in 17 league games.

Tottenham’s players have been allowed time off until Monday because the team did not have a weekend fixture following their FA Cup loss in January.

Manchester United followed the example by hiring Michael Carrick for the rest of the season after firing Ruben Amorim.

Prior to news of their deal with Tudor, Tottenham was linked with former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic and former RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose.

Following his responsibilities with the United States at the World Cup in June and July, Tottenham’s former manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be a candidate for the permanent post.

Tottenham’s next encounter is a north London derby against Premier League leaders Arsenal on February 22.
