After May 29, when his term as governor of Rivers State finishes, Governor Nyesom Wike declared that he would not flee Nigeria out of fear of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
When asked to honour the EFCC at the conclusion of his term on May 29, Wike said he would do so joyfully.
The governor responded to recent comments by Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the EFCC, who said that the organisation would arrest corrupt governors whose terms finish on May 29.
The threat to arrest governors after their terms expire on May 29 didn’t concern Wike, however.
On Monday, the governor appeared on the Channels Television morning show SUNRISE.
Days before the inauguration of his successor, Wike swore not to flee Nigeria as several previous governors had done.
“I’m not going to flee due to the EFCC. Why should I be invited, anyway? I will accept their invitation if they so want. I won’t flee, Wike said.
