Tension flared in Abuja on Monday after aggrieved workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reportedly chased the motorcade of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during a protest over unresolved welfare and salary issues.

In a video seen by Chronicle NG, striking workers were initially gathered peacefully to press their demands when Wike’s convoy passed through the area. The mood quickly turned volatile as protesters surged towards the vehicles, chanting slogans and demanding attention to their grievances.

The workers have been on an indefinite strike since last week, accusing authorities of failing to address long-standing labour and welfare concerns.

The action has paralysed activities across major government offices in the nation’s capital, disrupting public services.

Amid the escalating dispute, Wike has taken legal action against the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), the umbrella body leading the strike.

    • Court rules today as striking FCT workers demand Wike’s removal

The suit, marked NICN/ABJ/17/2026, was filed at the Abuja division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) and is scheduled to be heard today.

Court documents list the FCT Minister and the FCTA as claimants, while the defendants are JUAC’s president, Rifkatu Iortyer, and its secretary-general, Abdullahi Saleh, both sued in their representative capacities.
