The Nigeria Police Force introduction of a digital tinted glass permit regime has continued to generate public debate across the country.

In April 2025, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, announced a policy mandating motorists to obtain an annual tinted glass permit through an online application process for a prescribed fee.

To facilitate the process, the IGP also launched a digital platform, the Police Specialized Services Automation Portal (POSSAP), via www.possap.gov.ng, where motorists can apply, validate, and manage their tinted glass permits.

    What is POSSAP?

It is the official digital platform of the Nigeria Police Force for accessing and validating various police services, including the reactivated Tinted Glass Permit (TGP).

The portal automates the application process, ensuring transparency, verification, and ease of use for motorists nationwide. The NPF plans full nationwide enforcement of the policy from October 2, 2025, despite ongoing legal debates.

Steps to apply for a tinted glass permit

The virtual verification system provides a seamless, technology-driven process that allows applicants to authenticate and validate their details online.

To apply, visit www.possap.gov.ng and sign up using your National Identification Number (NIN) and Vehicle Number (VN) for individuals, or Tax Identification Number (TIN) for corporate bodies. Select the tinted glass permit option under the list of services and choose your preferred method of virtual verification for your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

You will be redirected to a verification page to validate your VIN and make a payment of ₦2,850 for the validation.

Afterward, return to the main application page to upload required documents, including proof of vehicle ownership, vehicle license data page, and a clear photo of your vehicle.

All files to be uploaded must be below 2MB in size to avoid upload errors.

After uploading, proceed to pay the application fee of ₦14,200. You will then be redirected to complete facial verification.

If not automatically redirected, click on virtual verification on the menu bar or use the link sent to your email to continue. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.

Once done, download your application receipt for recordkeeping. Your application will then be processed and reviewed by the Police for approval through the POSSAP platform.

Upon successful review, your tinted glass permit will be approved and issued digitally through the portal.

Meanwhile, motorists are advised to follow all instructions carefully and ensure that the details provided match their vehicle registration records to avoid rejection or delays.
