Tajudeen Abbas, Member Representing Zaria Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, has emerged Speaker of the 10th House.
Hon. Abbas defeated his two opponents with 353 votes, while former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji each received three votes.
The two legislators received votes from themselves and the legislators who nominated them.
Hon Abbas was nominated by former Majority Leader Ado Doguwa and seconded by PDP member Nnaji Nnolim while Tijjani Ismail nominated the former deputy speaker, and was seconded by Muhammed Abdulmummin.
Until his emergence as the Speaker, the new Speaker was the House Committee Chairman for Land Transport.
He had served in more than seven committees in the House since 2015 including Commerce, Finance, Special Duties, Defence, Public Procurement, and National Planning and Economic Development Committee.
The Speaker who hails from the Zazzau Emirate, is a prince with the traditional title of the Iyan Zazzau.
