A tragic explosion at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, located about 42 kilometers from the Abuja city center, has claimed the life of a student and left four others injured.
The incident, which occurred around noon on Monday, sent shockwaves through the quiet suburb. Emergency responders and security personnel, including a police bomb disposal squad, were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Details surrounding the explosion remain unclear as police are yet to issue an official statement.
However, a security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the deceased student had been carrying a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) at the time of the explosion.
The source said, “The dead student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, bore the substance suspected to be IED while it exploded and injured the other students, thereby causing pandemonium in the centre.”
According to the source, the affected students were recently admitted to the school and had only resumed on 3rd January 2025. Efforts to reach the school authorities for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
