The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations of bribery involving some of the commission’s officers made by popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, otherwise known as Bobrisky.
The allegations were raised by Bobrisky, in a viral video circulating nationwide.
Bobrisky, who recently completed jail term over abuse of the Naira, claimed that officers of the EFCC demanded and collected a bribe of N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
The video, which was shared widely on social media, was powered by another online personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
In response, Olukoyede swiftly constituted a team of investigators to look into the allegations. “The Commission has invited both Okuneye and Otse to present themselves at the EFCC Lagos Directorate to assist with the investigation,” a statement from Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, read.
“The EFCC assures the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the results will be made public in due course. The Commission remains committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration at all times,” Oyewale stated.
The investigation into these serious accusations comes amid heightened scrutiny of the anti-graft agency’s operations. The EFCC’s leadership has reiterated its zero tolerance for corruption and remains determined to hold its officers accountable if any wrongdoing is found.
