Mercy Aigbe has confirmed her conversion to Islam and revealed her Islamic name at a Ramadan lecture and special prayer hosted by herself and her husband, Kazeem Adeoti.
Shortly after the lecture, the Nollywood actress was interviewed, and she confirmed her conversion to Islam from Christianity.
In a video, she introduced herself as “Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti,” a Muslim name.
“Insha Allah, my new name is Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti,” she says in the video. Meenah with the H. I’m beyond thrilled. Actually, I’m satisfied.
It is unclear if she will continue to work in Nollywood. Mercy Aigbe began her acting career by starring in some soap operas, including the popular Papa Ajasco. She joined the Nollywood industry fully in 2006 and acted in the movie that brought her into the limelight ‘Ara,’ a movie produced by Remi Olupo in Ibadan, Oyo State.
She founded “Mercy Aigbe Gentry School of Drama” in 2016.
Born 1 January 1978 in Edo State to Pa Aigbe and Mrs. Abisola Grace Owodunni, she is the second child in a family of five.
She has been married at least twice before marrying Adeoti in 2022. Her second marriage to Lanre Gentry ended after she alleged domestic abuse against him.
