Erling Haaland has been named one of six candidates for BBC World Sport Star of the Year.
Manchester City striker Haaland who won the treble last season will face fellow player Aitana Bonmati, who won the Women’s World Cup with Spain and the Champions League with Barcelona.
Max Verstappen, a three-time Formula One world champion, and Siya Kolisi, South Africa’s Rugby World Cup-winning captain, have also been nominated.
The rest of the six-person shortlist includes tennis player Novak Djokovic, who won three of the four majors this year, and gymnast Simone Biles, who won four gold medals at the World Championships.
The winner will be determined by a public vote on the BBC Sport website and announced on December 19 during the BBC Sports Personality of the Year broadcast.
If Haaland wins the trophy, he will follow in the footsteps of Lionel Messi, who won it last year after leading Argentina to a World Cup triumph.
Only Eusebio (1966), Pele (1970), Ronaldo (2002), and Cristiano Ronaldo (2014) makeup the other players who have been named BBC World Sport Star of the Year (previously BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year).
