Gunmen killed two travellers on the Fugar-Agenebode Road in Edo State’s Etsako East Local Government Area on Friday.
The terrorists also kidnapped 14 commuters after blocking the road with sporadic bullets.
However, the police rescued the abducted travellers.
According to Moses Yamu, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, a joint team of Agenebode police officers, local vigilantes, and hunters responded quickly and pursued the perpetrators into the forest.
He claimed that a gunfight broke out between the police and the gunmen on Obe Hill, near the pipeline to Ajaokuta.
Yamu stated that the 14 abducted passengers were rescued alive following the exchange of firearms.
“However, a 12-year-old girl was fatally shot by the fleeing kidnappers, and one female victim remains unaccounted for,” he said.
