The Peoples Democratic Party has claimed that gunmen attacked its witnesses that were heading to the Presidential Election Tribunal for Friday’s hearing.

The main opposition party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar is seeking to overturn the outcome of the February 23 presidential election that was won by President Muhammadu Buhari.

At the hearing in Abuja, the party said that witnesses of Mr. Atiku and his running Mr. Peter Obi were attacked by unknown gunmen.

The party did not give any further explanation on where these attacks took place and on which witnesses.

“Information reaching us is to the effect that, witnesses that were supposed to testify at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal for the PDP today were attacked by unknown gunmen,” the party said on its Twitter account.

Adding that, “Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, the lead counsel for the PDP and Atiku/Obi at the tribunal informed the court that the witnesses were attacked on their way from their various destinations as they were coming to the court to testify against the fraud in the last February 23, 2019 elections.”

“In view of the above information, the trial judge, Justice Mohammed Garba has adjourned hearing on the PDP, Mr Atiku and Mr Obi’s petition to Monday, the 15th of July 2019”.
