A group of gunmen have raided another police installation in Orlu, Imo state, killing a police inspector and setting the station ablaze in the process.

According to a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam the attack occurred on Thursday night and three of the hoodlums were killed in the gunbattle.

CSP Abattam who revealed the details of the incident on Friday also said that the gunmen threw improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the building which caused it to go up in flames.

    • Police arrest dozens of IPOB/ESN members in Imo

The statement reads in part, “Three of them were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun, and two locally-made double barrel pistols were recovered during the operation while others escaped into the bush with bullet injuries.

“Unfortunately, a police inspector lost his life in the attack.”

In recent times, Orlu town has been known to be a major hideout for gunmen who raid police installations in the South-East.

Three days ago, police (after investigations) raided a hotel in Orlu where Eastern securty network (ESN) fighters purpotedly use as their base of operations. According to reports by the police, the hotel owner supplied the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) militia with accommodation, money, logistics and arms to wreak havoc in the state.
